I Really Hope My Sister Doesn't Read This

I have been working on knitting a lace shawl for my sister Kate's wedding for about a year now. I kid you not, it has been almost exactly one year since I knitted that first stitch. Kate's dress is gorgeous, and I truly believe that only something hand-made could complement it properly. This shawl is really quite beautiful.

Alas.

Ivy hates it. She hates it so much she tried to derail the project by chewing up my knitting needles. What I don't understand is that this particular project was stored in a cubby, nicely folded, and when I went to work on it, it was still folded up, but the needles were chewed. Fiendish and diabolical is Ivy's particular brand of magic.

Sadly, this is not the first pair of knitting needles I have lost to a dog. Milo once had a fondness for the bamboo as well. Wood is a difficult drug for these dogs to avoid.

  1. But the shawl is beautiful! I have such a hard time with lace. I'm so impressed.

Why do dogs love to eat wood?

  2. It has been my experience that dogs like to eat wood because they aren't supposed to. Everything that is wood is not meant for dogs. There is a reason for this. Splinters. But it is also my experience that dogs don't tend to think ahead like that.

Thank you for thinking the shawl is beautiful -- you can take credit since you taught me how to knit! :)

  3. What a beautiful idea! I am sure Kate will adore this, and hold on to it forever! Hope all is well in Colorado.

Andrew and I hope to be out there soon. :)

  4. So relieved she destroyed only the tools and not the creation itself! What a thoughtful gift. You can come over here and knit if need-be...Ivy does not have to know.

  6. You know how I enjoy your blog, and with such a luring title - how was I to resist? You can tell Ivy that I will battle her for the shawl. Not only am I thrilled about wearing it, but it's going to be cold in January. And she already has a coat. Can't wait to see you soon!
